Full Valerie Bertinelli Biography
Valerie Bertinelli was born on April 23, 1960 in Wilmington, Delaware. Her father was a General Motors executive. In her early teens, her father was transferred to the GM assembly plant in Van Nuys, California. At this time, Ms. Bertinelli enrolled in the Tami Lynn School of Artists to study acting. In January 1975, the situation comedy "One Day at a Time", produced by Norman Lear premiered on CBS, with Bertinelli as Barbara Cooper, one of two daughters of a recently divorced woman. The show was a long-time hit, and ended production in 1984 without being cancelled.
Ms. Bertinelli has starred in three feature films, "CHOMPS, " "Ordinary Heroes", and "Number One with a Bullet". She was also the protagonist of the Miniseries "I'll Take Manhattan, " based on a novel by Judith Krantz. She has appeared in made- for-TV movies almost annually since 1979. She was also the star of two other situation comedies, "Sydney", and "Cafe Americain", both of which were cancelled after short runs. Since 1980, she has been married to heavy metal guitarist Eddie Van Halen. They reside in Malibu and have a son Wolfgang. Ms. Bertinelli is still chiefly remembered by her television fans for her work on "One Day at a Time". |

Valerie Anne Bertinelli (born on April 23, 1960) is an American film and television actress best known for her role as Bonnie Franklin's smart and lovable daughter, Barbara Cooper, on the long-running television series One Day at a Time.
Bertinelli was born in Wilmington, Delaware to Italian parents Nancy and Andy (a General Motors executive) Bertinelli. Along with her one older and two younger brothers, the family lived in Claymont, Delaware and Clarkston, Michigan before moving to Van Nuys, California where Bertinelli studied acting at the Tami Lynn School of Artists. She graduated from Granada Hills High School in 1978. She was raised Catholic. .
Bertinelli married Eddie Van Halen on April 11, 1981. They had a son, Wolfgang "Wolf" William Van Halen, on March 16, 1991. On July 9, 2002, they announced that they had been separated since October 2001. She filed for divorce on December 5, 2005.
Bertinelli, who slowly gained weight over the years, is the new spokesperson for the Jenny Craig weight-loss program diet and can be seen in commercials alongside Kirstie Alley. |
