Full Emilio Estevez Biography
As a wide-eyed, mercurial, quick-triggered Billy the Kid in Young Guns (1988) and its 1990 sequel, this sandy-haired former Brat Packer finally found a colorful character and latched on to commercially successful starring vehicles-but it remains to be seen if he can parlay that success into more prestigious films. One of the several acting offspring of Martin Sheen, Estevez (who uses his real surname) began performing in TV movies as a teenager. The 1982 Disney drama Tex afforded him his first feature-film credit, which he followed in quick succession with Francis Coppola's The Outsiders and the horror anthology Nightmares (both 1983).
One year later he made his first real impact as a comically disaffected punker in the loopy cult hit Repo Man (1984). He also contributed fine ensemble work in two films of the so-called Brat Pack of young actors, The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo's Fire (both 1985). Not content with staying in front of the camera, the ambitious Estevez began flexing other creative muscles by writing and starring in the contemporary teen-angst drama That Was Then, This Is Now (1985), adding directing to his palette with the poorly received Wisdom (1986) and Men at Work (1990, which costarred brother Charlie).
In between these two personal failures, he offered a winning comic performance in the action comedy Stakeout (1987). In 1992 he starred with Mick Jagger and Anthony Hopkins in the sci-fi thriller Freejack Recent credits include The Mighty Ducks (1992), National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1, Judgment Night Another Stakeout (all 1993), and D2: The Mighty Ducks (1994). He was married to pop star Paula Abdul. |

Estévez was born in New York, New York, the eldest child of actor Martin Sheen and artist Janet (née Templeton). His siblings are Ramón Luis Estévez, Charlie Sheen, and Renée Estévez. Unlike his brother, Emilio did not adopt his father's stage name as he wanted to get roles without relying on his father's success.
Estévez was briefly married to singer-choreographer Paula Abdul. He has two children with an ex-girlfriend, model Carey Salley. They have a son, Taylor Levi Estévez (born in June 1984) and a daughter, Paloma Rae Estévez (born in February 1986). |
