Full Martina Gedeck Biography
Martina Gedeck (born 14 September 1961 in Munich) is a German actress. She came to international fame as the main character in the German film Mostly Martha and has won numerous awards, including the Deutscher Filmpreis (German film award) in both 1997 and 2002.
The eldest of the three daughters of businessman Karl-Heinz Gedeck and secretary Helga Gedeck, she grew up at first in Landshut, and then from 1971 in Berlin. There she attended high school at the Schadow-Oberschule in Berlin's Zehlendorf district, where she completed her Abitur (secondary education) in 1981. Afterwards she briefly studied German and history at the Free University of Berlin. Finally she studied acting at the Berlin University of the Arts from 1982 to 1986. Gedeck currently lives in an apartment in the city's Dahlem district.
She lived with the actor Ulrich Wildgruber until his death in 1999. Since 2005 she has been in a relationship with the Swiss film director Markus Imboden, with whom she has worked on numerous films.
In 2002 Gedeck was honoured at the German Film Awards for the second time - she had won in 1997 for achievements in acting, and now in 2002 for best female lead. In 2007 the German film The Lives of Others ("Das Leben der Anderen"), in which Gedeck played the leading female role, was awarded the Oscar for best international film. |
