 Barry McEvoy counts An Everlasting Piece as his screenwriting debut, and his performance as Colm as his first starring role in a feature film. He was previously seen in the feature film Gloria, directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Sharon Stone, and the acclaimed TNT Civil War drama Gettysburg.
He appeared in Sidney Lumet's TV series 100 Centre Street and alongside Heath Ledger in Roar.
McEvoy has also worked extensively on the New York stage, including the Broadway productions of On the Waterfront and The Sisters Rosensweig, going on to star in the national tour of the play. His other New York stage credits include Harold Pinter's Moonlight at the Roundabout Theatre, in which he starred with Jason Robards, Blythe Danner, and Liev Schreiber, as well as plays with the Circle Rep, Classic Stage Company, and the Irish Arts Center. He has also worked at the Mark Taper Forum, Los Angeles and at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast.
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, McEvoy is the eldest of three children. His father is a barber who was also a hairpiece salesman and whose tales of the trade were the inspiration for An Everlasting Piece. McEvoy emigrated with his family to the United States as a teenager, settling in Maryland. After studying theater in college, he began his acting career on the stage in Washington, D.C., where he performed in a number of plays with the Scena Theatre Company and others, before moving to New York in 1991.
