Full Ivana Baquero Biography
Ivana Baquero (born 11 June 1994) is a Catalan child actress best known for her starring role in Pan's Labyrinth. She was born in Barcelona, Spain. When she was 11 years old, director Guillermo del Toro chose her to play the lead role of Ofelia in Pan's Labyrinth, for which she won critical acclaim. In May of 2007 she signed on for her first English-language role, the title role in The New Daughter, a supernatural thriller film from Gold Circle Films. Written by John Travis and based on a short story by noted horror-thriller writer John Connolly.
Ivana Baquero went to school in Barcelona, her home town. At school Ivana learned English as her third language, her main languages are Spanish and Catalan. It was her days at school when she realised what she wanted to do with her life... She wanted to be an actress.
Ivana Baquero acted a few small roles in a number of films before receiving great acclaim on Pan's Labyrinth. The most noted of these films would be Fragile, acting a very small role alongside Calista Flockhart and Richard Roxburgh. She was in a number of other films including Romasanta and Rottweiler. She has also appeared on Spanish TV on a few occasions.
Pan's Labyrinth was the film which really brought Ivana Baquero into the hall of fame. She was picked from about 1000 talented young actresses. Del Toro said that when he saw her with her curly hair, he knew she was the perfect one for the role. Originally the role of Ofelia was going to be for a girl of the age of 8, but the script was altered to accommodate the 11-year old Ivana Baquero. Ivana baquero really enjoyed working on this project, and just as much loved the film when it finally came out.
The Anarchist's Wife is Baquero's next film, set again in the unsettled time of the Civil War in Spain. Ivana plays a supporting role as Paloma, a fifteen year-old girl. The filming is all now complete, it is now in the post-production stage, due to come out 2008.
