James Steven Ignatius 'Jim' Corr MBE (born July 31, 1964) is the guitarist for the Irish folk rock band The Corrs. He is also the eldest and the only male sibling in the group. Standing at 5'8", he is the tallest of the group.
He plays acoustic and electric guitar as well as piano, keyboard, accordion and background vocals. He has also had an active role in the production aspects of all of their albums to present date, working with David Foster and Olle Romo on two separate albums. He sang a few of his own lines in the song 1999,a cover of the Prince song.
The Corr siblings were awarded honorary MBEs in 2005 by Queen Elizabeth II, in recognition of their musical talents and also their charitable work which raised money for Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, victims of the Omagh Bombing and other charities.
Jim currently holds an Irish Private Helicopter's Pilot Licence, allowing him to fly small aircraft such as his Robinson R44 Raven II helicopter (registration G-SWAT). He is also heavily involved with charity causes, playing at concerts to raise money for non-profit organisations and appeals such as the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle (where his mother was treated), the victims of the Omagh bombing and the Prince's Trust. Jim and his sisters were also involved in the Live 8 series of concerts, performing at Edinburgh in mid-2005 alongside Bono and other acts such as Annie Lennox, Eddie Izzard and Bob Geldof. He also performed at Nelson Mandela's 46664 concert in South Africa, to help raise awareness of the growing AIDS epidemic in Africa.
In November 2005 he announced his engagement to former Miss Northern Ireland Gayle Williamson. On May 10, 2006 Gayle gave birth to the couple's first child, a son named Brandon. Jim and Gayle had planned on getting married, but have separated. A reconciliation may have occurred as Jim escorted Gayle to the Go Belfast Awards on 2 November 2007. |
