Towne's career began with a small role in the 1998 movie Girl, a romantic drama starring Dominique Swain and Sean Patrick Flanery. The following year she appeared in the feature films Go, She's All That, But I'm a Cheerleader and The Bachelor, and guest-starred as Sunday on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
In 2000, she starred as Riley Veatch on the short-lived sitcom M.Y.O.B., alongside future Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham. Since then she has appeared in a number of feature films, including The In Crowd, What Lies Beneath, Town & Country, Mulholland Drive and Evolution. She will next be seen alongside Michael Weston in the film drama Looking for Sunday, and on the upcoming television series Tell Me You Love Me, due in 2007.
