Darcey Bussell is one Britain's leading Ballet stars. She studied at the Royal ballet school and joined the SWRB in 1987 becoming the principal soloist in 1989.
Her repertory includes, Odette, Cinderella, Giselle, Juliet, Sugar plum fairy, Raymonda manon, Mitzi Caspar, Black Queen. She won the Prix De Lausanne in 1986 and the Evening Standard Ballet award in 1990. She has also received the Variety club award for the best newcomer. She has one child and received an OBE in 1995. She has had roles in Serenade, Ballet Imperial, Duo Concertant and Push comes to shove. She is a strikingly beautiful lady and has appeared in a car commercial in black leather clothing, causing quite a stir in many circles. |

She was a pupil at Fox Primary School. After studying at the Arts Educational School, Bussell began ballet seriously only at the age of 13 when she moved to White Lodge in the Royal Ballet School. After graduating in 1985, she stayed at the school for two further years, appearing in minor productions at Covent Garden, before joining Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet in 1987.

In 2006 she announced her retirement as a principal dancer at the Royal Ballet, though stayed with the company as "guest principal artist".
She has recently teamed up with Katherine Jenkins, with whom she plans to put on a song and dance show to pay tribute to the stars who have inspired them. The show is entitled Viva la Diva and is due to be launched in November 2007.
Bussell has been married since 1997 to Angus Forbes, an Australian banker, whose brother is the godfather of Elizabeth P. Archer. They live in Kensington with their two daughters; Phoebe, born 2001, and Zoe, born 2004. |
