Full Anne Archer Biography
A striking, silky-voiced brunette probably best remembered as the "perfect" wife in Adrian Lyne's 1987 megahit Fatal Attraction Archer was born into a show-business family: Her father, John Archer, was an actor, and her mother, Marjorie Lord, starred opposite Danny Thomas in the popular TV series "Make Room for Daddy."
She studied theater arts at Claremont College before landing her first film assignment opposite Jon Voight in The All-American Boy (1970). Archer worked in Cancel My Reservation (1972) with Bob Hope, enjoyed plum roles in the made-for-TV movies The Blue Knight (1973) and The Mark of Zorro (1974), played Sam Elliott's old flame in Lifeguard (1976), and was Chuck Norris' first leading lady in Good Guys Wear Black (1977). Roles in Paradise Alley (1978), Hero at Large (1980), and Green Ice (1981) did little to advance her career, which finally got a well-deserved boost from her work in the 1981 offBroadway success, "A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking." With husband Terry Jastrow, she wrote, produced, and starred in Waltz Across Texas (1982), a pleasant if unspectacular modern romance.
She tackled her first mother part in The Check Is in the Mail (1986), before being cast as Michael Douglas' spouse in Fatal Attraction which won her critical acclaim and an Oscar nomination. Love at Large, Narrow Margin (both 1990), and Eminent Domain (1991) gave her meaty parts, but Patriot Games in which she played Harrison Ford's wife, finally brought her another hit. Recent credits include Body of Evidence, Short Cuts (both 1993) and Clear and Present Danger (1994). |
