Mark Edwards is the current host of the The Wake Up America, Sunday nights from 10:00 p.m. {PST} - 12:00 a.m. {PST} for KFNX-AM 1100 Phoenix, AZ.
Mark Edwards was the host of the radio show Wake up America, Monday-Fridays from 10:00 p.m. {PST} – 12:00 a.m. {PST} for KDWN-AM 720, and is very passionate about the topic of illegal immigration; the primary topics on the show relate to illegal immigration, the U.S. government, and a potpourri of national news.
After six years with the Marine Corps, (a portion of it spent during the Korean War), Mark decided to give broadcasting a try. He graduated from the Milwaukee School of Broadcasting and played a diversified role on the air as a morning personality, sports director and 'play by play' man for baseball, football and basketball, and also served as a color commentator in these same sports. Edwards was also an operations director, program director and a news director. His radio travels have taken him from Wisconsin to Arizona, California and finally in Las Vegas where he was a mainstay for thirty years. In Las Vegas, Edwards has experienced a widely varied radio background.
He has been a commentator for UNLV football and basketball. He covered all of the major fights that were held in Las Vegas for a Canadian Sports show called Celebrity Sports (broadcast nationally in Canada). During the Jerry Tarkanian era at UNLV, Edwards broadcast live from the old Landmark Hotel lounge with Coach Tarkanian and an audience that could interact with the coach. Edwards also enjoyed a long run at the Riviera Hotel with a program called Inside the World of News, Sports, and Entertainment. It was broadcast live Monday through Friday from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM on KLAV. His guests ranged from Pulitzer Prize winners like the late Jim Murray and Dick Young to celebrity guests such as Donna Fargo, Anne Murray and the Captain and Tennile just to name a few. Edwards's last stint in Las Vegas was the "Wake Up America" show on KDWN-AM 720 for over two years and 500 hundred live shows heard throughout the West. Terry Anderson (host of "The Terry Anderson Show" on KRLA radio), was a regular on Wednesdays on the program. Guests on the show were the "Who's Who" of anti-illegal alien activists, such as T.J. Bonner head of the Border Patrol Assoc., retired INS agent Mike Cutler, Congressman Tom Tancredo, Jim Gilchrist, and many others. Edwards was heard Monday through Thursda. On Fridaty Jim Dallas was the host. Edwards took great pride in never running a prerecorded program on "Wake Up America". During this time, Edwards founded an event called the "Unite To Fight Summit" held for the years 2005-2006. He was inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Hall Of Fame in 2004.
In 2006, Mark Edwards retired to the Fox Valley River region near Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He continues to be active in the organization he founded under a new heading "The Wake Up America". The Wake Up America program returned every Sunday on June 3, 2007 from 10PM to 12AM MT on KFNX 1100 AM. Mark Edwards broadcasts from his home in Wisconsin. |
