Full Rosalind Chao Biography
Rosalind Chao or Chao Jyalin (Chinese: 趙家玲; pinyin: Zhào Jiālín; born September 23, 1957) is an American actress, born in Anaheim, California.

Her parents were amateurs in Beijing opera singing, and Rosalind performed in some small roles of operas as a girl. She started shooting television commercials at age 7. After she graduated from Pomona College, her TV career began.

Chao played Keiko O'Brien (maiden name Ishikawa), a Japanese exo-botanist, in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Keiko is the founder and teacher of a school on DS9's promenade, the wife of engineer Miles O'Brien, and a mother of two.

Chao also appeared in both the television series M*A*S*H and its spinoff, AfterMASH. She first appeared in M*A*S*H during the last several episodes of the series as Soon-Lee, a Korean woman who fell in love and married Maxwell Klinger. In AfterMASH, she and Klinger moved to America where Klinger went to work for his former Commanding Officer, Colonel Potter.

Chao plays one of the eight main characters in The Joy Luck Club. Perhaps her greatest role to date was as Lalu in the 1991 film A Thousand Pieces of Gold, the story of a determined Chinese immigrant woman in the Old West, which co-starred Chris Cooper.

She also has a minor roles in What Dreams May Come, where she played flight attendant Leona, the physical manifestation of the protagonist's dead daughter, and Freaky Friday, where she played the daughter whose mother wrought the spell which forms the basis of the plot.

Chao has also guest-starred in The West Wing as Jane Gentry, and several episodes of The O.C. as Dr. Kim. Chao also guest starred as Li Kiem in Tour of Duty, Season 1 Episode 16, "Gray-Brown Odyssey".

One of her earliest roles was a bit part as a receptionist in the initial Season 2 episode of The Incredible Hulk, "Married". She also had a role in a two-part episode of The Amazing Spider-Man (TV Series) called "The Chinese Web" (which turned out to be the series finale). In it, she plays Emily Chan, the niece of Min-Lo Chan, a diplomat framed for crimes he didn't commit during World War II. She reluctantly teams with Peter Parker (Spider-Man's civilian identity) to help clear his name. She also ends up being a love interest for Peter after discovering that he was Spider-Man. She also plays Joan Lin in W.I.T.C.H. (Return of the Tracker and V is for Victory).
