Full Jennifer Ehle Biography
Jennifer Ehle received critical acclaim and worldwide recognition for her starring role as Elizabeth Bennet in the highly popular BBC Television series "Pride and Prejudice." She recently won Best Actress in a Mini-Series at the 1996 BAFTA Awards.

Ehle graduated from London's Central School of Speech and Drama in 1990. Soon afterwards, she made an extraordinary impact as the tempestuous Calypso in "The Chamomile Lawn," directed by Sir Peter Hall for the UK's Channel Four.

Other television credits include Lucasfilms' "The Indiana Jones Chronicles"; Granada Television's "Mickey Love"directed by Nick Hamm, which launched the Rik Mayall Presents series; BBC TV's "The Maitlands" directed by Lindsay Posner; Carlton Television's "Beyond Reason"; "Self Catering" directed by Ian Sharp and most recently "Pleasure" also directed by Sharp, in which she played the leading role of Emma.

Ehle made her feature film debut in Backbeat, the story of The Beatles, in which she played Cynthia Lennon.

In the theatre, Sir Peter Hall cast her as Elvire in his production of Moliere's Tartuffe. She has also appeared in Breaking the Code and The Relapse, The Painter of Dishonour and Richard III, all for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Encouragement ("and lots of it") for her chosen career came from her mother, the actress Rosemary Harris and father, the novelist John Ehle.
Additional Jennifer Ehle Biography
Jennifer Ehle (born December 29, 1969) is a two-time Tony Award winning stage and screen actress. She is probably best known for her role as Elizabeth Bennet in the 1995 mini-series Pride and Prejudice.

Ehle was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, U.S. to English actress Rosemary Harris and American author John Ehle. She spent her childhood between the UK and America, attending 18 schools. She attended the North Carolina School of the Arts before moving to the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. In 1992, she was plucked from the latter by Peter Hall to star in the mini-series The Camomile Lawn. In this series her real life mother Rosemary Harris played Jennifer's part of Calypso as an old woman. Four years later, her performance as Elizabeth Bennet gained her a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award. After a stint with the Royal Shakespeare Company, she had her first major film role in Paradise Road. Her success continued as she won critical acclaim and a Tony Award for her 2000 Broadway debut in Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing. Her mother was also nominated for the same award that year (Best Performance by a Leading Actress) for her role in Waiting in the Wings. After a hiatus, she returned to the stage in 2005 in The Philadelphia Story at the Old Vic opposite Kevin Spacey. In June 2006 she starred as Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, as part of the Shakespeare in the Park.

Forthcoming films include Road to the Sky, an Indian-US co-production directed by Santosh Sivan and Pride and Glory with Edward Norton and Colin Farrell. Alpha Male, directed by Dan Wilde, has been released in the United Kingdom. From October 2006 until May 2007 she was in The Coast of Utopia by Tom Stoppard, for which she won the 2007 Tony award for Best Featured Actress in a Play. In 2008 she will feature in a CBS telefilm, The Russell Girl.

Ehle dated actors Toby Stephens, from The Camomile Lawn, and Colin Firth, Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. She is now married to the writer Michael Ryan and they have a young son, George. They currently reside in upstate New York.
