Full Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio Biography
Mary Elizabeth grew up in Oak Park, Illinois as a daughter to Italian immigrants and began her career in school plays as a teenager. She attended Illinois University to study and got bitten by the acting bug.
Leaving for New York, she took part in West Side Story in 1981. She also made it into movies playing against Al Pacino in Scarface (1983). In 1985 she starred in Color of Money, The (1986) which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Around 1990 came a string of movies that really gave her a lot of attention, important roles in Abyss, The (1989), Class Action (1991) and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991). At this time she also got married to January Man (1989) director 'Pat O'Connor' .
Careerwise, she took the decision to pick roles she liked instead of roles that would attract attention. Also, she took time off to be with her family. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (born November 17, 1958 in Lombard, Illinois) is an American actress and singer of Italian descent.
She has since limited her roles to those which interest her, so that she could devote more time to family. Mastrantonio's only high profile role since 1992's Consenting Adults was that of a fishing boat captain in 2000's The Perfect Storm. She did, however, have a recurring role during the fourth season of the television drama Without a Trace.
She has appeared on Broadway in various musicals, including The Human Comedy and the 2002 revival of Man of La Mancha in which she played Aldonza/Dulcinea, opposite Brian Stokes Mitchell in the title role.
Mastrantonio is married to director Pat O'Connor (who helmed The January Man) since 1990 and is based in London, where the couple resides with their two children. |
