Full Dave Coulier Biography
David Lee Coulier (born September 21, 1959) is an American comedian, actor, and voice-over artist, best known for his portrayal of Joey Gladstone on Full House.
Coulier was born in St. Clair Shores, Michigan in 1959. He graduated in 1977 from Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods, Michigan. Coulier got his start in high school doing stand-up during the lunch hours and impersonating the principal over the school PA system.
Coulier has done extensive voice work for shows including Extreme Ghostbusters, The Real Ghostbusters and Slimer! and the Real Ghostbusters (taking over the character of Peter Venkman after Lorenzo Music's departure from the role), Muppet Babies after Howie Mandel left (Baby Animal, Baby Bunsen, Bean Bunny and Uncle Statler and Waldorf), Scooby and Scrappy-Doo, The Jetsons, Rude Dog and the Dweebs, Detention, and Teen Titans.
However, Coulier would achieve the most fame when he was cast as the role of Joey Gladstone on the sitcom Full House in 1987. He stayed on the show for its entire run, until its cancellation in 1995. He was famous for doing voices and impressions. In addition to Full House, Coulier starred in the children's comedy series Out of Control and appeared on George and Leo and Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher. He has also hosted America's Funniest People with Tawny Kitaen and Opportunity Knocks. Additionally, he was also a voice actor in Yogi Bear and the Magical Flight of the Spruce Goose, and has voiced Felix the Cat on a few occasions.
In addition to his voice work, Coulier has also taken a few acting parts appearing in The Even Stevens Movie (where he had a cameo as a reality show host) and playing the role of Whit Griffin in the Disney Channel Original Movie The Thirteenth Year in 1999. He also founded his own children's entertainment company F3 Entertainment in 2000.
In 2003, Coulier appeared on the 3rd season of The Surreal Life. Then in 2006, he appeared on the TV reality show Skating with Celebrities on FOX, where he was paired with Olympic medalist Nancy Kerrigan.
Currently he is a member of Duck's Breath Mystery Theater touring comedy troupe (which he claims is clean comedy but not quite as wholesome as Full House) as well as host of the series Animal Kidding. He was also a Kids Choice Awards host, and stars as Mr. Byrd in the TV movie Shredderman Rules in 2007.
Coulier was married for two years to Jayne Modean and has one son named Luc. Coulier was alleged to be Alanis Morissette's first lover (they met at a hockey game) and is widely suspected to be the subject of her bitter song You Oughta Know, though neither party will confirm this. (See .) This was alluded to on an episode of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" with Larry David.
He is also an avid fan of the Detroit Red Wings, especially noticed during his tenure on Full House where he would sometimes be seen with a Red Wings jersey on, as well as a poster that was hung up in his room. Coulier was a member of the Celebrity All-Stars hockey squad, along with Jason Priestley, Matthew Perry, Alan Thicke, Michael J. Fox, Michael Keaton, and Richard Dean Anderson. He also was part of the 2002 NHL All-Star Celebrity Challenge.
Coulier also introduced Candace Cameron, his co-star on Full House, to NHL player Valeri Bure at a charity hockey game. Cameron and Bure started dating soon after and were married on June 22, 1996 |
