The Black Book

"Although this is a truly great classic film-noir period piece with some fine acting and suspensful script, the quality of the DVD (I would hate to see the copy in VHS) is almost too painful to watch. The backgrounds are all too dark to recognize, any details of footage is lost in the poor transfer quality, it's an all-around a terrible disappointment. I would recommend not purchasing any DVDs from this company despite the very inexpensive price. If you want to throw your money away, donate it to some worthwhile organization----do not buy this DVD!"

Three Little Words

"Fred astaire and red skelton play the songwriting team of harry ruby and bert kalmar in this semiautobiographical film musical. The plot is based on how they met and became a team, broke up over a misunderstanding and became friends again.. Etc. Though this film is overshadowed by other fine musicals of the era, it is entertaining nontheless. A good blend of comedic moments with musical and dance numbers enhanced by the teaming of astaire and skelton. The film has a great support cast of keenan wynn, arlene dahl, and the very talented and beautiful vera ellen. Also, look for a very young debbie reynolds in a musical number singing one of the duo's popular songs. pure mgm musical... That's entertainment!!"

Life With Father

"It is a qualified five star because the movie is 5 star and wonderful but the DVDs I've seen are terrible. I have viewed two versions and found both very sub par (like a badly worn VHS). I wish someone would produce a DVD of this outstanding classic that is worthy of the performances in this delightful and sometimes hilarious through back to a simpler time. I'm not sure which movie the other reviewer watched, but William Powell plays the father of all BOYS and Elizabeth Taylor plays a young (late teen) family friend infatuated with the oldest son who's headed to Yale in the fall. Great fun, wish there was a good DVD. Maybe some day, now that the Thin Man series has been re-done in DVD."

Life With Father

"Strick Father living in a house full of woman. His wife and daughters. Stars William Powell with large, booming voice, who wants to know who is on the phone. Movie set maybe around the 1920's or later. Mother is played by Irene Dunne. Elizabeth Taylor played one of the daughters. She could have been maybe 12-15 years old at the time. A vintage flick. Not Rate, clean cut. More for those that like old Classics. AND, not action, marshall arts, cussing, and guns. It's a good movie. I RECOMMEND IT!"
