Despite earlier buzz that the fictional setting of Springfield on The Simpsons was named after a town in Matt Groening's home state, the creator now denies having ever said that.

30-minutes over Tokyo"I'm currently listening commentary with Matt on "30 minutes over Tokyo," and they made a comment about the episode never being aired in Japan. Because of the disrespect to the Emperor. I just wanted to make a note, since coming to Japan to teach English, I have used the episode as a listening exercise.
Every Japanese student I've shown the episode to, has loved it. They thought it was a great episode. (I even had one of my students translate the Japanese in the episode for me, which is really funny as well.)
So no worries. Japan loves the episode."
