Cassandra Peterson, Elvira's alter ego, was born in Manhattan, Kansas and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She remembers always being a fan of Ann-Margret.
Since Cassandra saw her in "Viva las Vegas" she wanted to be a dancer. Just days after graduating from high school, Cassandra went to Vegas where, at the age of 17, she became the youngest showgirl in Las Vegas history. AP - "Elvira" by The Oak Ridge Boys was a hit in 1981. Pat Benatar's "Shadows of the Night" came out in 1982. "Lovergirl" was a hugely popular song for Teena Marie in 1985. And "I Can't Wait" by Nu Shooz was all over the radio in 1986....
