Virginia Katherine McMath was born on July 16, 1911 in Independence, Missouri. Her nickname, "Ginger," originated from her younger cousin Helen who pronounced "Virginia" as "Ginja." Family and friends continued to call her this, and later theatre men who understood the name to be "Ginger" billed her as such on their marquees.

"Similar to 'Fantasia' in concept, this film uses popular music from the 50's to underscore it's fabulous animation. And like 'Fantasia,' I'm sure this film was FAR more popular in the trippy '60's than when it was originally issued. This film may be hard for some to sit through entirely, but each of the individual segments feature animation and design at the peak of the Disney Animation Department's powers. One 'PC' problem: Disney has digitally removed Pecos Bill's cigarette throughout that particular segment--and yet, in the very next segment, there's an animated parrot smoking a cigar and swimming around in a martini (through the entire segment!!). Zowie! What's next? Removing the scene in 'Bambi' where his mother gets shot??"

Astaire & Rogers Collection, Vol. 2

"Fantastic!! Beautifully posted, nice box and covers, discs etc. The films themselves are really well remastered. I used to own these on vhs and the sound was always an issue. very well cleaned up considering they're from the early 30's. Also, I think it's actually the original trailers, extra's etc that were on the original 38mm on each disc. great bonus. I'm a huge Fred fan and have bought many releses of his films recently on dvd from ebay etc but these are the best. Great quality, proper comercial release and half the price I could get them from a shop In Australia. Thanks Amazon!! (wow...what a review...I didn't mean to over do it but Im really happy) Cheers, James"

"I'm as disappointed with this issue as some others who thought they were buying the original masterpiece. Okay, so Pecos Bill has a ciggie in his mouth in the original (funny, I never took up smoking because of that, and I was 6 when I saw the original). I doubt that those who see this desecrated version will understand why the original was such a unique experience. It's a little strange to me that Pecos Bill can't smoke and Johnny Appleseed has to clean up his act, but the Power Rangers can violently and noisily wipe out legions of their foes with such glee. Bring back the originals, guys. This, and 'Song of the South', with Uncle Remus intact."

Astaire & Rogers Collection, Vol. 1

"FINALLY! Five of Fred & Ginger's best films are heading to DVD, getting the treatment that only a class-act like Warner Bros. can give them. A pal who works at a famous film restoration lab in L.A. told me that WB has been working on these wonderful movies for nearly two years, in many cases, using the original negative (when available) as their source material. This means they're gonna look great..and it was worth the wait. Each great film has been given a new documentary, some have commentaries, and most (all?) have shorts or cartoons. No one lavishes as much love & intelligence on their classic releases as Warner does. I'm sure these will not disappoint! 'Look...no cuffs!'"
