National Geographic's Surviving Everest: The Collector's Edition
"This movie plays out like a dry cultural movie of the Nepalese people and Edmund Hillary's life. The movie focuses on all that Hillary has done since he first climbed Everest, and how he has dedicated his life to helping the Sherpa people. All this is fine, but the title: 'Surviving Everest' implied that the movie has something to do with the climbing of Everest, when in actuality it's just a half-baked biography / cultural lesson. It is rather slow, and contains no exciting parts. If you're goal is to find out more about the mountain, the other NG movie '50 Years on the Mountain' is actually about the mountain and is a pretty well-produced film. I also thought 'Above All Else' was pretty good, especially for its price."

Manhattan Transfer - Vocalese Live 1986
"This is the DVD release of a 1986 show from Japan. This was released on VHS and Cassette in the late 1980's. Fans of The Manhattan Transfer know that their talents and body of work is nearly unsurpassed, so why do we have only one DVD concert of them, and why did we have to dig back over 15 years to get it? There is nothing really wrong with this concert DVD (aside from the fact that the 80's hairdos and stage costumes look really silly now), but their fanbase should be large enough by now to warrant releasing a more recent slate of shows. In this show's defense, the material on their 'Vocalese' album (which this show was part of a tour to promote) is extremely difficult to sing live, and the Transfer manage to pull it off without missing a beat."

The Grid
"Firstly i was meaning to buy Traffic - the miniseries, but i confused traffic for the grid. I don't watch any shows like this (24, alias etc), and i had no expectations of it. The first half hour or so starts off slow and admitedbly boring, but when it get into the pace of things it's very interesting. It's clever, and the action is realistic (Far from Jame's bond style). It's veyr exciting and goes for over 4 hours, so that was fun aswell (And can manage to sustain interest for that ammount of time, which is a good sign). And the ending isn't that bad, there just one final bit at the end that suggests a countinue. So the ending isn't actually bad, it's very good. Just there's that extra bit, which they may make a Grid 2. Very good "

Penthouse: Working Women
"There are some incredibly beautiful women in this video but they are wasted, due to a jumpy camera person who wouldn't dare shoot below the equator. You'll see more skin in some of the more recent Playboy videos. Obviously produced by someone else for Penthouse. Buy the 2001 Pet-Playoff instead."

Herbert Von Karajan - His Legacy for Home Video: Ludwig Van Beethoven - Symphonies 6 "Pastorale" &
"The 7th symphony may be the only one that I do not enjoy in all three Karajan/Berliner Philharmoniker's Beethoven Symphony Series. The speed is too fast which makes one feel a little too shaky. I would prefer the one performed by Karl Bohm/Wiener Philharmoniker in 1970s. I abandoned the idea to collect Karajan's 1980s Beethoven Symphony Cycle on CDs after listening to the 9th Symphony but I am still going to collect this set on DVDs, since it's not likely to get a better DVD set of Beethoven's symphonies. I would never go for it if I had a chance to have Beethoven's symphonies played by Karajan/Berliner Philharmoniker, Karl Bohm/Wiener Philharmoniker or Georg Solti/Chicago Symphony in 1970s on DVDs."

National Geographic's Surviving Everest: The Collector's Edition
"The DVD quality is poor. It feels like an old VHS tape. Most disappointing, considering this is from National Geographic! Collector's Edition my foot. The title is misleading. This dvd has nothing to do with Everest. It mostly discusses Hillary's social endeavors in Khumbu region-- which is nice, but not what I purchased it for. If you want to see anything about surviving Everest, watch the Nova series: 'Everest: The death zone'."
