"I must first admit that I bought this film only because Deborah Harry makes a brief appearance. The film is disjointed. There is not one story line but several. It is more like watching a series of short films based on short stories with the suitcase thrown in only as a link. There is no common theme. If you like experimental cinema, then you may enjoy it. You can debate whether there was in fact a point for bringing these stories together in one film."
"This is, by far, the worst movie i have ever seen! the cover jacket completely misleads the viewer, the plot is nonexistant, and the script is terrible. don't waste your time! there are more important things, like breathing, that you have to do!"
"I was very pleased with the wonderful acting jobs from all of the stars in this film. James Franco was very authentic and believable. Michael Moriarty as Winton Dean was cast perfectly as the often indifferent and cold father. The film was made for TV so it didn't delve into James Dean's childhood very much, but what it did show gave me a good feel as to what it was like. Usually I don't notice background music in movies, but the jazzy saxophone music in this movie really gave me the feel of what New York in the 1950's was like! I highly recommend this to everyone!"
"When this movie was first released, due to the outcry from the feminist and art history communities, Miramax had to remove their claim that it was 'the true story of the first female painter in art history.' Actually, it is practically a complete inversion of Artemisia Gentileschi's real story...she was in fact raped by Tassi (the 'love interest' in the movie) and maintained her stand *against* him even under torture (as is documented in the records of the trial). The film romanticizes and sexualizes her and their relationship to an almost soft-porn level while giving hardly any screen time to her actual work and using her paintings out of context...which is a shame, because the real story of this remarkable woman would have been just as dramatic if not more so."
"The description on the movie jacket is totally misleading. It is not thrilling and it is not terrifying. The only scene of Venice you will see is St. Mark's Square. All-star cast? Yup, and I suppose they made the best of it, but then if I was paid big bucks to spend some time in Venice I would too... A horrible movie! A waste of 1hr. 51minutes."
