"I can still remember laughing out loud with my grandparents in their living room watching Ann Sothern on a black & white TV set in the early 50's.I can still see her with that cute, puzzled look in her eyes, chewing on her eyeglasses or a pencil, pondering how to get out of her latest jam! Yes, she was my first crush on an actress ! And I still love her to this day....well, one of my many loves, anyway. Ann Sothern was a pioneer of TV sitcoms. She paved the way for the whole genere that we all enjoy today. Ann, thank you so much for all the laughs you provided us with, and also all the wonderful memories of a great era gone by!"
"As you can see from the earlier reviews, this movie is well-loved. This is the first time since its release in 1987 it can be seen in its original aspect ratio. This DVD also brings alive the colors of the Maine island where these actors gave their final film performances. The print does suffer from small imperfections but are not very noticable. Sound is an unenhanced stereo. The disc offers no extras other than chapter selection. It is too bad a little more effort was not put into a film that is significant to the filmographies of the stars. Overall, if you have seen this movie on cable and enjoyed the fine acting you will be impressed with the visual improvements this DVD brings."
"New Concorde, aka the worst company putting out cult DVDs still can't figure out how to not release things in pan and scan. Maybe one day I will actually buy some of their releases when the do it the right way. Why bother having a commentary. Why bother putting it out at all. WHY??!!"
"The plot is thin and fictionalized. It gives some sense of Hart's heartbreak and paints Rogers as a Saint who tried to work with his partner 'till the end. It just wasn't so. But, you don't need to worry about the plot! Every couple of minutes we're treated to another great Rogers and Hart tune by a fine performer. The folks who put this one together also did a wonder- ful job of matching performers to songs: June Allison sings 'Thou Swell,' Lena Horne does 'Lady is a Tramp,' and Gene Kelly dances 'Slaughter on Tenth Avenue.' These are magnificent performances frozen in time!"
"A joyous, unrelentless, kitchy celebration of 1950's americana, rock n roll and the road. This 'directors cut' of crazy mama is a lot of fun because it also includes a feature length audio commentary by its director jonathan demme and the produscer roger corman. Follow 3 generations of womwn and the men they pick up. It's general mayhem as their crime spree races from california to arkansas.classic 50'sh**s sound track - set in 1950's rural america, with a great rock n roll sound track, it's a hillarious romp starring cloris leachman and ann sothern as the crazy mamas of the title.....who form a gang of regular, ordinary people who rob gas stations, super markets and eventually banks....the eldest member being an 82 year old grannie. this movie is a lot of fun!"
"Unpleasant yet always fascinating lady in a cage stars olivia as a wealthy widow who's trapped in her home elevator while she's being terrorized by various street people and hoodlums. Considered shockingly violent and not very successful upon it's initial release in 1964, this movie has practically cult status among afficianados. James caan is impressive as a young tough as is ann sothern in her role as a fat floozie."
