"This is a wonderful movie certainly not the best that i have ever watched but it was much better then expected and overall entertaining. It is certainly worth watching and Venessa does a very fine acting job in this. I would grade it a A- Worth buying"

"Courage to love provides a fascinating insight to a little known period in Louisiana's history. A period when free women of colour were groomed by their mothers for the sole purpose of finding a rich man to take care of them- though due to Louisiana law, were unable to marry. Venessa Williams gives a good performance as a 'gens de colour.' I highly recommend. "

The Five Heartbeats

"This is one of my all time favorite movies. It reveals the real life joys, struggles, and sorrows experienced by black music artists of the 60's era. This movie is a treat and monument to American music. It can be enjoyed by people of all backgrounds and nationalities. The Five Heartbeats tapped into my emotional highway. This movie is a classic. I only wish this movie would have recieved the publicity it deserved while it was playing at a theatre near you. Thank you Mr. Robert Townsend for a job well done!"

"I saw this on TV last month and I thought it was lame. Everyone in the movie was goodlooking and the time period portrayed was romanticized big time. Keep it real. That wasn't how it truely was back in the day."

"This movie was a masterpiece it really dipicted Sally Heming's life from just being an ordinary quadroon slave then to become the concubine to President Thomas Jefferson. "

"I've seen the stage version of this amazing show, and though I usually prefer the immediacy of live shows, the movie is still tops in my book. Dorothy Dandridge *is* Carmen, and though her voice is dubbed, who can complain when it's dubbed by Marilyn Horne? Every time I see this movie, I find myself wishing again that Dorothy had lived longer, or at least made more movies in her short life. Can you imagine what she'd accomplish in today's film industry?"
