"A funny, warm, and perfectly wonderful musical -- the best kind of family entertainment. Danny Kaye is simply perfect as Red Nichols, the great jazzman of the 20's, and the bonus is the terrific music (many of which, I was surprised to discover later, were all Nichols' own songs). Wonderful work by Barbara Bel Geddes and the other featured players, especially the adorable little girl who plays Kaye's daughter. I've watched it again and again -- I think you will too."
"When I say 'safe', I mean where Elvis does not killed in the end like in 'Love Me Tender', and 'Flaming Star.' This something that's much better and I prefer a whole lot. Elvis has not one but three female costars: Hope Lange, Tuesday Weld, and Millie Perkins. I don't know about you but he gives an equal amount of attention to every one of them except near the end when he focuses more on Hope Lange. I love the songs which are: 'Wild In The Country', 'I Slipped, I Stumbled, I Fell', 'In My Way', and 'Husky Dusky Day'. My favorite line is when Elvis as Glenn Tyler says 'This routine of yours could stagger a billygoat.' That's one of his best lines. All Elvis fans should see this once in their lifetime. It's a must!"
"This is a very good movie. Pacino is so likable as a Broadway playwright who takes on the responsibility of being father for his son and various other children that his ex- wife drops off from time to time. A insightful comedy that is not that well know, but well worth your time. "
"Two talented actors, Anthony Perkins and Tuesday Weld really make this movie shine. It's a long-overdue release, and if you've never seen this under-rated and lesser-known gem, do yourself a favor and check it out!
Tuesday Weld smokes in this, playing a young girl whose initial, apparent innocence proves too much for Anthony Perkins who is perfect as a troubled young man who is caught in his own fantasy-world.
I'm so happy this has finally been released! I've enjoyed it in late-night airings for years on television.
Now if only 'The Shuttered Room' will get released, I can die a happy man!"
"This is one of my all-time favorite movies from my childhood. I was a teenager when I learned it was really a true story.
The performances by all concerned were outstanding.....so much Louis Armstrong can't possibly be anything BUT a good thing. And Danny Kaye, as always, makes you just love the man.
This movie is so great on so many levels. Yes, it often tends to be a sentimental tear-jerker, but I'll take that over watching Bruce Willis and Ahnold blow things up any day."
