"This disc will feature an enhanced audio/video track for the feature film. Other features include commentary by Garrett Brown and John Baxter. There will be the same old 'Making of the Shining' documentary that was featured on the old disc, but there are also three new featurettes: View from The Overlook: Crafting the Shining, The Visions of Stanley Kubrick, and Wendy Carlos, Composer. All in all, I'd make the purchase based on the video quality and enhanced sound alone. "
"Having watched all the new Kubrick Blu-Rays, I can say that 'The Shining' is the most surprising. The sharpness and crisp colors just blew me away. WOW! I saw this in the theatre when it came out, and it was nice to finally have it in the widescreen format again. Note - it is 1.78:1, not 1.85:1. It fills the 16X9 screen entirely. I can't recommend this one any higher! Buy it."
"Has anyone done a comparison to the 1:33 DVD release? I was under the impression that Kubrick filmed this in 1:33, and then matted (cropped) it for theaters. Is it possible that the 1:33 version actually has more visual info than this new 'widescreen' release? Or, was it filmed in widescreen originally? "
"Director rob reiner took aaron (sport night, west wing) sorkin's play and made it a taut courtroom drama.
the cast is a whos who are the great talent working today. Other than nicholson, cruise and demi moore who top line this film. You also have the acting talents of oscar winner cuba gooding jr, emmy winner keifer sutherland, kevin bacon, er's noah wyle, best in show writer/director christopher guest, j.t. Walsh, x-men james marshall and kevin pollack...a few good men indeed!
reiner put these pieces of acting talents together and makes this work in this action/adventure.
you can handle the truth!~ it is classic

"I just got the entire Kubrick collection in Blu-ray and, so far, The Shining is my favorite of all the releases. The transfer is stunning, the audio is clean, and the extras compelling. Seeing The Shining in hi-def is a revelation! Now as Danny motors through the hotel you actually FEEL the sense of movement! I remember when I saw it in the theatre how excited the crowd was during those shots. And that feeling is back in this release.
The extras are also great--especially the audio commentary. Incredibly informative with lots and lots of anecdotes and analysis, giving the viewer a very full and greater appreciation for the work technically and artistically.
Get This Disc--you won't be disappointed."
