“hey dude, there’s a concert in a hype spot by the riviera tonight, shall we go? That’s Samantha Fox singing…”. First thing happening is I see a gorgeous singer in her twenties winking at the camera while singing something luscious… the second thing that happens is I see myself, a 14 y.o. chump, hanging a picture of her –more than half naked- on the wall in my room…
and then of course I start to figure out how old she is now and I end up checking the net… born in ‘66, the hottie I remember must be long gone…
All right, who cares… I kinda like this “down by memory lane happenings” … let’s go man, I’ll see you tonight right in front of the place!
I call up the meeting with a bunch of my mates and we show up in time to have a couple of drinks before the concert… place is cool, right on the beach, atmosphere is relaxed, crowded with self claimed local jet-set ending their late dinners, music is –as expected- disco 80’s.
Then the vocalist calls the ball and begins introducing her… the music starts pumping in the loudspeakers, 2 dancers in hip hop suite get busy on stage boosting the spirit and a few girls standing in front of the stage start dancing full throttle, apparently blown by the sound… and then Sam comes out, jumping and dancing like years never passed her by.
It’s really amazing how she can handle the stage, singing songs that most of us never heard of before, but she is happy and everyone is out for some fun, so somehow the alchemy works as she interacts a lot with her auditorium… the 3d song is “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Me Now” and we all recognize it (thought I guess you do only when you hear it) and we start dancing our as* off the floor :)
It’s no more than 8 songs and it’s fun, actually much much better than I expected.
We are all enjoying it and she goes along with it playing a little bit sexy, she masters the skill after a life long training, and posing for the photos taken during the concert with all the cameras and mobile phones available around the dance floor.
And then of course the backing vocals starts singing the refrain “this is the night” and we all get blown by the memories of the 80’s with her world hit “Touch me”.
I’m happy, because I get confirmed what I always knew: Music is the Time Machine.
When she goes off we are all still dancing on the dance floor, handovered to a dj who seems to know what to do.
I can’t resist: I push off my friends and we manage to sneak in the backstage where Sam is having a party with her team: She is friendly and smiling, hands us a glass and we toast together with champagne… "the Fox's drink" ...truly playful and full of energy she answers and asks questions: “Did you have fun?” is what she seems to ask everyone. Yes, Sam, we did. Pure fun."
