Executive Suite

"Just received my DVD copy of 'Executive Suite' and am sad to find out that it has not been Widescreened by Warner's. It states on the back of the box that it is in the format of its original theatrical exhibition. Wrong! It was filmed at ratio of 1.66:1 not 1.33:1. The LaserDisc I have from MGM was widescreened at the correct aspect ratio. 'Executive Suite' is a good film concerning what goes on behind the scenes of big business but not nearly as good as 'Patterns.' 'Patterns,' unfortunately, is 'public domain,' and is (or was) only available on a very, very poor quality DVD. "

Barbara Stanwyck - The Signature Collection

"This looks to be a great collection for stanwyck fans. a couple of these films i've never seen before, and i've been waiting a long time to replace my old vhs copy of east side, west side. praise to warner for continuing their sterling series of signature collection dvd sets. looking to the future, how about sets featuring lana turner (green dolphin street, a life of her own, diane, homecoming, by love possessed) or jane powell (two weeks with love, nancy goes to rio, a date with judy, holiday in mexico, three daring daughters) or spencer tracy (northwest passage, plymouth adventure, the seventh cross, cass timberlane, edison the man), just to name a few? these are indeed golden times for classic film fans."

Double Indemnity

"this legendary thriller is one of the greatest and most influential and most imitated films in motion picture history. the dialogue is intelligent, the plot is engrossing and the cast stellar. one question: why is the DVD transfer of this great film of very inferior quality. artifacts are rampant throughout. the picture is very grainy through most of the film. so much could have been done with this film. it is certainly among those films that deserved the special treatment but appears as though the distributers and studio used the first negative available for the transfer. very disappointing DVD. i don't usually purchase a second DVD version of any film, but the transfer on this one was so inferior, i'll make exception here."

Christmas in Connecticut

"Christmas in Connecticut is a romantic comedy all of you classic movie buffs will enjoy. It centers around a single working girl (Barbara Stanwyck) who writes a cooking column for a ladies magazine. Her writing is so convincing that her boss (Sidney Greenstreet) believes it all--husband, baby, and farm in Connecticut! So he arranges to have a sailor and himself invited to spend Christmas 'on her perfect farm.' What to do? Here she is, a gal who can 'only cook on the typewriter.' Well, bring along Uncle Felix to do the cooking. All goes well until she is asked to flip a flapjack. Did she do it? Well, wait and see. This movie is full of fun and romance (the old-fashioned kind). It's a holiday treat for young and old alike."
