"I love love love this movie, but you have to make sure you get the VHS version (where the VHS cover is the cast riding in the car.) Lucky for me, this is the one I own. By mistake, I purchased the 'wrong' version for a friend and we sat down to watch it together. The music in the DVD version is TERRIBLE compared to the original (don't even get me started on the c.d. soundtrack.) Whoever made the blunder of re-doing this for DVD re-release needs to be fired!"
"That is what I thought the first time I saw this wonderful film. I ignored what the critics said about it, and saw it anyway, and the movie proved them wrong.
It is based loosely on the true story of Balto, the dog who led the last leg of the run to Nome to deliver diptheria antitoxin.
But this story is very good. It focuses on a dog who is half wolf. His goose friend Boris sums up Balto's feelings when he says 'Not a dog. Not a wolf. All he knows is what he's not. If only he knew what he is.'
It is when he discovers who he really is, and accepts it, that he saves the day. That scene where the white wolf shows Balto who he really is is worth the entire movie. That scene never fails to bring tears to my eyes.
It is well worth seeing."
"Take away the beginning and end credits and what you are left with is a 75-minute long movie that wasn't worth the price of admission in the cinema but is worth owning on DVD. What I liked about Lake Placid is that it is kind of light-hearted and doesn't try and make itself a full-blown horror by showing us guts and entrails. The movie is NOT serious and has many suspenseful scenes packed into it's VERY brief running time. The cast are delightful and the big nasty croc is actually quite sympathetic at the end. Buy this DVD and enjoy for what it is...a light, breezy comedy-thriller that nails the bullseye instead of aiming for higher (and ultimatly lesser) results. The DVD has some promotional material and a trailer. It is in Dolby 5.1 and is letterboxed at 2.35:1."
"Don't tell anyone I like Singles. I have the DVD and some of my friends ask whose it is. I say some girl must have left it at my house or something. But secretly, I like this movie very much. It's a time piece of early 90's Seattle. Watching it now, it seems a little dated but the whole plot and dialogue of the movie is not dated. I think all the interconnecting stories tie in very well. But not like I really watch this movie or anything. SOmeone just left it at my house. I only watch Rambo."
"This is going to be a very short but to the point review. This movie is just great. A lot of fun and laughs filmed in an environment that makes you wish you could be there. A real town with real people so 'down home and honest' you'll find yourself looking on the map for this place. Truely a magical experience you'll enjoy again and again."
"Been waiting years for a decent jaws style film? Deep Blue Sea wasn't quite your thing? Then this could be just what you've been waiting for. A fast paced creature feature which has it all: great characters, fun plot (not totally unfeasable)with some teasing twists. The effects are stunning and the DVD transfer is fantastic; a sharp picture with an awesome dolby 5.1 sound track. However, a word of warning to hard core gore fans, this film is built more around 'jumpiness' than visual blood and guts, not to say that the film doesn't have its gorier moments. Overall this is a funny, light hearted approach which should be enjoyed by anybody who doesn't take life too seriously."
