"This film, nicely directed by Michael Winterbottom, makes good use of flashbacks that take us all the way back to when the Pearls got married as well as to glimpses of their lives together before his was ended tragically.
Angelina-haters, get over it. Ignore her personal life and focus on her strong performance as well as those of the supporting cast. This film was overlooked in theaters but I'm hoping it will get a second chance now thati** on DVD. No bombast, no preaching, no agenda, no taking sides....It just lays out the facts of the story as it happened and allows you to formulate your own reactions. It's to the director's credit that he did not show Pearl's captivity--or worse, his execution. They are not necessary; you can imagine them for yourself.

"Although this movie was well made, the subject matter was really boring. I mean, Marianne Pearl and her supporters basically got nowhere in their search for Daniel Pearl. They didn't know where he was being kidnapped so they couldn't even rescue him. Most of the info that they got about Pearl was from the captors themselves. They were the ones who sent photos of Pearl, etc. Throughout the movie, all we get is: 'Did you see a foreigner in front of the Village Restaurant?' Boring. There needed to be more drama and tension. I don't consider winding up in 'dead ends' to be drama and tension. That may have been the way this story was, but then why make a movie out of it if it's going to be this boring. I can see why this movie bombed at the box office."
"Very nice movie about a girl who is 17 and in rehab there she meets totally crazy skitzo Lisa and they form a friendship.. very sad at points and very funny at points a must see!"
