"...and I love her! What was she thinking when she made this pasted-together film about a fiftyish 'ugly duckling' who marries an asexual professor and can't figure out how to 'un-platonic' their relationship? Part of the problem is that Streisand never fully commits herself to looking unattractive at the beginning: her idea of looking homely is long, dark clothing and brown hair, but with all the movie star lighting firmly in place. Barbra then drops the original film's plastic surgery transformation for a make-over that changes her looks into a Barbie doll of ill repute. Voila! The world is at her feet and her husband (and everybody else) is at her beck and call. What message does this send?"
"If you're into predictable 90's romantic comedies, this is one of the better ones. There are some really nice moments in this film and at certain points it is very funny. However the film is often unconvincing and certain developments seem unprovoked. Some of the diolgue is pretty corny, but most of it is well written, sencire and personal."
"A somewhat slow but overall rewarding version of the Bronte classic , 'Jane Eyre.' Beautifully filmed as all Franco Zeffirelli films are, we are taken on a journey of contrasts as Zeffirelli explores the darker nature of human suffering, regret and memory as played out against the lush, natural beauty of the English countryside.
William Hurt and Charlotte Gainsbourg deliver wonderful, though rather subdued performances as the two star-crossed lovers and Anna Paquin is absolutely marvelous in her all too brief role as the young Jane Eyre."
"If you concentrate on the sexual tension in this movie, you'll miss the wonderful symbolism (snake in the garden, blind man, angels, etc.). This is a whimsical story of temptation, love, acceptance and many more of life's twisted paths. Very seductive and entertaining. An added bonus was the fact that Elle had to gain a little weight so she had a stomach, for the artist portrayed in the movie painted 'natural' female nudes, rather than the twiggy thin models that most women never aspire to without starvation. Loved it!

"The first three Batman movies weren't too bad, by superhero standards. In fact, despite some glitches and missteps (let's not talk about that whole Penguin thing, OK?), they remain among the best comic book adaptations on the market. That said, No. 4 was a mistake. Batman & Robin manages to spend 125 minutes without a single redeeming scene. Even the big bat battles are disappointing, looking campier than those from the old '60s TV series."
