"For those of you living under a rock, Ellen Degeneres is the host of her own hit talk show. Of course, she wouldn't be where she is today if she hadn't gained national fame through her comedy.
The Beginning is extremely funny. Especially since it was taped only three years after she came out. She makes alot more references to her sexuality in it than in Here and Now. The topics range from losing attention during conversations, to her stops at a health food store and a sex store, to even God herself. Here and Now is alot more family friendly than The Beginning, but both will make you laugh at how accurate they are to the everyday world.
Whether you're a fan of her talk show, a fan of her in general, or just enjoy a good comedy set, this DVD will not disappoint."
"Great casting, well paced script, funny funny funny. A little wacky at times, but each actor commits to every line.
My favorite scenes:
-Ellen/Martha's reaction to Pullman/Whitman's poetry
-Pullman character's 'reveal'
-Charades with Ellen, Plowright and Pullman
-Ellen sharing her good news with sister Hope Davis
-Pullman's big butt
One of my all time favorite movies, I've seen it several times and always enjoy it."
"My life is movies. I am an afficionado; I was hired at one of my jobs because I knew a movie fact. Out of all the comedies I've seen, this one is special. Ron Howard has made such a hilarious, heart-warming, and just cool movie that everyone should give it a chance. It is nothing like the Truman Show: besides the fact that they are both excellent films. You will not be disappointed by McConaughey's performance, and you will be surprised by how funny Jenna Elfman and Ellen DeGeneres is (her best film to date). If that is not enough- Elizabeth Hurley is in the film. I'd pay to watch her eat, let alone what she does in this movie. So please enjoy this 5 star movie with five great stars performing."
"I don't recall seeing any of Patricia Arquette's previous films, but this was definitely the one to start with! She plays a deliciously wicked hussy who, coincidentally, has a comical obsession with the soundtrack from 'The Sound of Music'. (Having been raised Catholic in a fairly religious family, I could really connect with this device.) The scene where she lipsyncs 'I have confidence' is classic! And, I really enjoyed Ellen (Degeneres)in this movie. Her smaller supporting role as a sardonic cop did more to showcase her talent than many episodes of her show did, or larger roles like in 'Mr. Wrong'. If you allow yourself the time to get into the story at the beginning, the payoff is just plain FUN!"
"I went to see this brilliant act by ellen degeneres live apirl 16, 2003 at gw's lisner auditorium in washington d.c. and let me just say that it was the most hilarious thing. i had a blast! the rhythm, the timing, the pauses! everything! pure genius! how does she do it? just how does she do it? i also watched this show on hbo and demanded that my aunt watch it too and she loved it! ellen had us laughing until we were choking to death!!! i can not even wait until the release of this classic on dvd! i own it on tape now and it's just about ruined from me looking ati**o much. i just about know everything that she says verbatim! i have a little bit of a problem."
