"Melanie was just PERFECT in this! And Joan Cusack! So good, so funny, so perfectly cast! '5000 dolluhs?? And it's not even leather!' I just love this movie so much. And Harrison! What a super-hottie! But more than anything what makes this story work is the mix of plot AND character. It is just so real, so easy to picture actually playing out in life; all the painful trials and tribulations -- then the hard fought for success! Still a lot of fun!!"
"A boy teenager, Stanley Yelnats, sent to Camp Green Lake for a crime (stealing a pair of sneakers) he didn't comit. There, he & the other boys are forced by the Warden, a cruel & firey woman who paints her fingernails with snake venom, to dig holes as a 'building character'. Each day, a boy must dig a hole 5 feet deep & 5 feet wide in the dry rock that was once Camp Green Lake. That is, until the boys discover her secret, a buried treasure."
"Thank goodness. Finally a leading role providing a small sample of Alan Rickman's depth without handing him yet another bad guy. The film touches many nerves, is sensitive and illustrates the worth of people with disabilities. Weaver is excellent and without vanity. Rickman allows his tender, sensitive, and insecure side to be glimpsed. This film deserved a wide release and Oscar attention. As in nearly all Rickman choices, the audience has a responsibility to think as part of the total experience."
"This incredible box set is, in my opinion, THE very reason that DVDs were created in the first place. Getting the never-before-seen director's cut of all four alien movies is worth the $70 alone.. but toss in a jaw-dropping 40 hours of special features, and you have the greatest DVD collection ever released."
"Producers of this disc set claim there was not enough disc space to include the DTS track due to the 154 min. special edition run time. I find this extremely hard to believe. The Terminator 2 Ulimate Edition DVD is two minutes longer than Aliens SE and that disc has seamless branching, an audio commentary, Dolby Digital EX, DTS ES, and the picture was superb. Bunch of BS if you asked me. The lack of a DTS track on this release is a major goof and, as such, just dropped the title from my reference list.Blunders like this are nothing new to 20th Century Fox. Keep in mind, they are the same bunch of bozos that gave us the non-anamorphic special edition DVD of The Abyss.Get a clue Fox!"
