Chinese Odyssey

"An above average Hong Kong comedy, with some really funny scenes. The emphasis is on physical comedy, so the fact the subtitles are often unreadable is not a problem. The usual cheesy Hong Kong 'special effects' only add to the fun. But I found this to be a disappointing DVD purchase--there is nothing on the DVD but the movie, and even that does not appear to have been remasterd in any way. So, if you can find a tape version at a lower price, go with the tape--whoever put this on DVD did it with the minimum amount of effort."

Supercop 2

"I bought this DVD thinking that it was a Jackie Chan flick, but he appears only for about 1 minute in the WHOLE movie. The story is just OK. It does not compare to 'Supercop' which is better. Do your credit card a favor, skip this one."

Chinese Odyssey Part One: Pandora's Box

"Chinese Odyssey, Part 1, is a very wacky period adventure...you'll be forgiven if you end up at the end no wiser than the beginning. Stephen Chow is Joker, whom two female demons (one, Jingjing, who is in love with him) is convinced is the reincarnation of Sun Wukong, the Monkey God of Chinese classic Journey to the West. While it must be congratulated for giving the centuries-old classic a novel spin, there's just too much repetition, wackiness and messiness to ensure this a smooth ride; the jokes are mainly slapstick, and could well be removed without hurting the ramshackle plot at all. Best seen as a preparation to the much superior and emotionally satisfying Part 2, Cinderella."

"During the opening scene, it appears to be a very action packed movie, but the action is hard to follow sometimes because of the close ups on the fighters. I could not get a good feel for the movie because of this. I thought Donnie Yen could have done a much better job with his skills, but I was not impressed. If your looking for a good Donnie Yen movie don't look here. Try Iron Monkey or Sword and Butterfly, the latter may not show a lot of Yen, but what it does show is damn good."

Chinese Odyssey Part Two: Cinderella

"If you haven't heard of the story since childhood, you wouldn't know what I mean when I say it has great plot. Though the beginning of the 2nd movie doesn't match the ending of the 1st movie at all, the 2nd one outperforms the 1st one in plot though is weakened in comedy. But the idea of time travel and the ending are good. After the first time I finished watching this movie 5 years ago, I couldn't speak for hours but to think about the movie. It gives you the feeling you get after you watch the Sixth Sense buti** totally different"

"another one of Donnie's movies, where he stars, choreographs and directs......he has given the movie a very fluent feeling...the fight scenes are very good and edited very well.......Donnie really knows how to amaze people with his new way of film making...I'd recommend this movie to anyone!"
